The Explosion Of The Volcano Of Santorini

Santorini has always been subject to legends and strange tales. One of the main reasons for its world fame is the volcano on which it is located. Its eruption, centuries ago, is considered to be the second largest eruption in the course of human history. It was the cause that altered the way the world was up to that point. A great civilization, the Minoans, was totally destroyed at the time, a fact that changed the dynamics in the whole Mediterranean. Even though the volcano has been asleep for years and years, still the inhabitants of Santorini are restless as far as its activity is concerned. That same volcano and its eruption is what shaped the island of Santorini and gave it its current form and identity. The volcano has been destroyed and reformed by its consecutive eruptions dozens of times over the last 400000 years. The greatest of all, however, took place in 2000 BC and led to the creation of the caldera and the current landscape.

Scientists give two main explanations about the explosion of the volcano of Santorini. The first places it around 2000 BC and the second one around 1500 BC. The second one states that the Minoan civilization was destroyed by a gigantic tsounami that was initiated by the explosion. Another 8, smaller-scale eruptions, led to the formation of the islands of the Old and the New Kameni, in the middle of the caldera.

All rooms and suites are small and inviting, conveying a sense of comfort and relaxation for guests to experience the peacefulness of Santorini's starlit sky, the Caldera, and the blue waves of the Aegean Sea, with spectacular panoramic views of the Caldera and the Aegean Sea.

Oia has also a great pron. There someone could find some of the greatest restaurants in country. The multi awarded with star Michelin’s chefs create upscaled dishes for guests and serve them in wonderful exterior spaces on the cliffs of caldera.

Santorini has mostly boutique hotels, in excellent design, with high standard amenities, which although are expensive are worth till the last euro. Make some research on the internet and if you are lucky you will find discounted offers or extra benefits for your stay.
