Santorini has always been subject to legends and strange tales. One of the main reasons for its world fame is the volcano on which it is located. Its eruption, centuries ago, is considered to be the second largest eruption in the course of human history. It was the cause that altered the way the world was up to that point. A great civilization, the Minoans, was totally destroyed at the time, a fact that changed the dynamics in the whole Mediterranean. Even though the volcano has been asleep for years and years, still the inhabitants of Santorini are restless as far as its activity is concerned.
